Breaking Lines.

I am changing the direction of this blog. I will someitmes have some teaching things. But my newest passion is Disc Golf. This is in case you have not noticed.

This came into mind when I threw a disc onto the this house that rolled up to the door and set off the wireless security systems as the disc broke the line. I was so embarressed. At above 40 years old I had to go up and ask for my toy back. It was one of my better discs. The guy had wondered what it was. I gave him a disc out of my bag and asked him to come throw with me. Not bad. I may have a new DG convert

Springing

I am glad that spring is springing forward. I have spent quite a bit of time doing some disc golf recently. I am really happy about the ellipticals training I did over the winter. I am in shape and ready to go this year. I have enjoyed doing more and more disc golf this year than in any year prior to this.

This year has been great so, I have hit my first Ace (ever) and threw for over 300 feet.

I love going places, I recently saw some really nice wedding programs. My friend who is getting married and planning a very serious disc golf themed wedding is doing some really odd things.

In any case I am hoping that he will be able to set things in motion. I am still wondering what to wear to the wedding. We are playing a round of disc golf sometime. So I am wondering if shorts are ok. The wedding invitation said outside, rain or shine.

Outside

Now that spring is here . . . I can go out and supplement my diets that work with outside exercise. Get me out of this house.

In SD once the temps get to 40 degrees people are outside and do not go back in for awhile. We are fed up with snow and being inside.

It is really an amazing thing. Today is supposed to be 50F degrees outside. There will be lots and lots of people out on the disc golf course.

Making NCLB worse

Well here we go again. Grrrr. Obama is going to try the age spot removal on NCLB (No Child Left Behind).

I get worried when people who have no clue about education start telling teachers what to do. The problem is that teachers know what to do and ususally try to do a good job. There are two major problems: parents and students.

The students are usually not motivated. The parents assume the teachers are idiots. No Child Left Behind was a failure. However, it does provide some motivation.

Brrrrr

One of the things I have noticed that is the amount of dragging going on. People are just dragging tail. Makes me want to pop for an Orlando vacations to go somewhere nice and warm. I mean the warmth here is really bad and almost gone.

I need somewhere warm. We got up to 50 yesterday. Now today we have snow. Grrrr.

I am so ready for snow to be gone for a long time.

To Be Not Sick

One of the items that we have been using at school this winter has been the use of hand wash for the kids. I then used a spray disinfectant to clean off the desk which I do about every other class. This way the students hopefully will not get sick and be able to stay at school.

Well I have been using Zicam all winter trying to stay non-sick. This year I did not even get the smallest cold.

Funny Things.

One thing that I find rather funny about finding a teaching job.

I tried for a teaching jobs in Philadelphia at a private school. This was a school that took kids who were on their way out of the system. These were kids who had failed out and needed some help.

I now work with great success with these types of kids. The kids I am working with do really well with the kids. Well I hope that you have a most happy day!

How to Think

I have to confess that insurance advertising has become much better. Now we all liked the you are in good hands line. Of course now we have Gieco ads.

This makes out jobs as teachers much harder. The problem is the we have to have cutsy stuff to help 'students learn'. The problem is that we have tried so hard to meet that we have let the students run the classroom. Along with the parents who typically failed out of high school.

I think we need to concentrate on learning and teach the kids how to learn.

Speed

Wow I just upgraded my macbook memory to get more speed. Wow! the difference is Amazing. Best upgrade I have ever had. I doubled the amount that I had up to 4 gigs.

I mean I have done hard drives and computer processors. Ram makes such a change in the operating system. Everything runs faster and is more stable. Switching between programs is fast and sure.

So I always do reccomend that people upgrade the ram in their computer. Not to mention it is cheap enough that it does not matter.

Talking with friends

I was just in contact with a some good friends who moved back home to NC from SD to teach in a big district. This of course is driving her crazy as she has never worked in a huge school. Her North Carolina health insurance in the big district was what she was raving about.

ALways nice keeping up with old friends. Not to mention I love talking with teachers that I know.
