Well I have learned that I need to take the PRAXIS exams just to get started. Well maybe not to get started. But still. ~sigh~.
Okay what is the PRAXIS. They are a series of tests that one has to take. At the very best it is confusing as yo what you have to take. All the sound alike names and all the numbers. Go by the numbers. The test numbers seem to be the only reliabe way of getting the correct test for your state. There are essay and content tests. Most states only want the content tests. States like FL, CA, NY and a others have thier own tests as well as Praxis.
The tests are designed like this:
Praxis I
The base test, $120 for all three sections. Essay, math and reading. This is taken by everyone and requires a score between 170 and 174 for all sections. Except VA which wants 175 and people are complaining about that.
Praxis II
The specific tests. These are your subject area and can be divided into either a essay or a content test based on your state. I will have to take a Gen Sci, Chem, Physics, and Earth and Space. Now the Praxis II scores are odd from state to state as the vary widely: on the physics there is a high of 141 and a low of 129
Praxis III
This is on pedagogy.
The good news is that you can take them many times, and if I understood ETS correctly, they report only the highest score. The bad news is you have to keep paying for it. The good news according to one of the teachers Praxis I was a cake walk.
