The Praxis I and Writing

The Praxis Tests: PPSt or the Praxis 1

Well, I finally broke down and took the Praxis One Series.

Here is what I learned. When you write the essay portion of the writing of the test: Write a really fantastic essay. When I say fantastic I mean:

1. A five paragraph essay. Use the standard format you have learned.
2. Write solid examples and proofs as evidence.
3. Grammar is most likely not graded as much as I thought it was.
4. Write from experience
5. Write a solid five paragraph essay.

I also included some humor in my essay, which is a very dangerous thing to do. However, I had to write something about computers and I have many examples of funny computer stories.

The Five Paragraph Essay Format

1. The Introduction Paragraph
a. The introduction or your thesis. You can write a really good catchy sentence: do it.
b. If you write funny sentence above: write your thesis
c. point number one
d point number two
e. point number three
f. this sentence can also be your thesis (though this is dangerous) This should be a transition sentence.

2. The First Point
a. This is the idea from 1.c. above
b. This is a solid point to back your idea
c. a real life example or another point
d. another real example or another point.
e. Transition to the next point

3. The second point
a. This is the idea from 1.d. above.
b. This is a solid point to back your idea
c. a real life example or another point
d. another real example or another point.
e. Transition to the next point

4. The Third point
a. This is the idea from 1.e. above.
b. This is a solid point to back your idea
c. a real life example or another point
d. another real example or another point.
e. Transition to conclusion


5. Conclusion paragraph
Tie everything together here. You can restate your main point or close with a solid story explaining your point.


If you can have a common repetitive phrase throughout the essay that is always a good thing.

Mine was something like: SYSTEM ERROR.

My last sentence was something like:

Now that I have written this essay I better end unless . . . SYSTEM ERROR . . .

Oh BTW I passed the praxis Math Reading and Writing for all states.
