Can I Get A Teaching Job?
I have been trolling around Yahoo! answers for a bit in the teaching section. And I notice a lot of the same questions come up time and time again.
Can I teach without a degree?
No. <--- notice there are no qualifiers on this one.
I will have a future blog on how to approach this
I have a degree but not in education, can I teach?
Maybe.
First, you need a degree in a ‘certifiable’ field like math or history or English.
Second, you will need to check your state requirements for certification or licensure or teaching certificate.
See - Find out Information on getting to the teaching information.
Most all states offer an alternative route to certification. Depending on the state you will need to take the Praxis Test for your subject from ETS.
Once taken you will need to apply for certification and find a job. Which one first will depend on your state.
Most states will require you take education courses in fairly short order. As an example, Kansas requires you to go to a state school through the restricted license program.
