Smell Hard

One of the hard items that there is for teaching is the idea yyou haveto look decent. I know some teachers are rather heavy on skin care products.

Most schools require that teachers are not allowed to wear purfume. Still others are not allowed to wear any type of items that smell. This will include soaps.

Pirate Land

Based on my last post you may want to try something closer to home. However, some cruises will take you to some really nice places in the West Indies.

Imagine going to some of the places that you read about. This has an appeal to students with American History and with pirates. Pirates is always a good topic and usually made better when a bad movie comes out about pirates. Most of the pirates hid out in and around the West Indies.

Front of the Class

Perhaps the oddest part of teaching is the office desks that we sit on up front of the classroom.

The placement is rather stratgic and fits your style. Some like back of the room or even the side. In my situation, I prefer the front of the room.

The front makes sense becasue I can always see the eyes of the students. I like to watch the students and their eyes.

Good Source of Teaching

One of the things that can help teachers the most, or so I am convinced is travel. Teachers should be encouraged to see the world and other cultures first hand. Bring back articfacts.

The travelpro should be filled with items from other countries on your way back through customs.

This will help your students see the world through better eyes. As you can say . . . I was there.

Not to mention you will pick up more history then you will ever learn in a book.

NCLB Status?

When looking at the status of NCLB, one has to wonder if it really needed the portable oxygen concentrator the democrats seemsed to want.

One of the problems is that not renewing this bill is going to be bad politically. Who wants to be against education. So many teachers have spent so much money becoming highly qualified it is not funny. So many tests and classes had to be done. after all it is for the childeren. Who can be against that?

Overall, despite all the promises NCLB will be renewed.

Close to home

One of the hard parts about moving and teaching, right away is finding somewhere to live. I was offered a job and started the next week. Talk about tough.

I thought of renting a Condo Hotels or just camping. There seemed to be no good solution.

I ended up renting a small house near the school for next to nothing becasue of my situation.

In retrospect. Maybe I should stay closer to home with work.

On the List

One of the great things about teaching high school is the lack of birthday invitations that elementery teachers have to deal with. Whereas an elementry teacher has to set rules of not being mean to others, the teens just do it normally and almost naturally. That is one reason I would not want to teach the younger grades.

More Choices

One of the odd things about teaching in a correctional facility is that students do not get what they want. As an example when shoe time came around more than one student complained about not getting some Air Jordan shoes. All the students had New Balance shoes which seems to be in disfavor with many of the students.

Looking at the Vista

One of the problems of perfecting the praxis of teaching is the realization that you are sometimes trying to get a small dog on top of the bunk beds that are available.

You usually have to pick the dog up and life them to the top bunk. In that way they will finally be able to see. And until the dog can see the vista there is no reason for the small animal to get up there.

Wierd Al

My last post talked about students and money. Many students want to buy concert tickets for a lot of fun.

I have enjoyed going to several concerts. Around here Weird Al is going be here at the end of the month. I am thinking that I need to go to this concert.

The real question is . . . am I still ready to go to a concert?

Student Work

One of the problems with going to school is that sometimes students need money. Many students will go to payday loan still others will work a few jobs.

The internet has come to the point of being able to make money in small and simple ways for students. I would encourage students to find ways earn money and remember the payoff at the end of the day is worth the effort.

A little Vacation

One of the teachers just went on vacation to thier nc waterfront property that they left behind when they moved.

Well he was gone for a month. This made the rest of everything diffcult for all who were behind. Since we have a real lack of subs, it makes life hard.

We all had to do our part and chip in.

So if you are thinking of starting to learn how to teach . . . you need to show up all the time.

Set the Classroom

I am in the process of setting up my classroom. I would like to be able to set up a solid positive environment. I am thinking of setting up some silk trees to help relax students.

I really do not want to do a live plant as a live plant actually takes work. And since I am famous for killing plants . . . well having a plant is a bad idea.
