Tickets

Of course one of the problems in teaching at an alternative school, is that, as one of my friends gets . . . at from a nice prep school is New York Yankees tickets. While he does live in NYC he still loves the same time as I and he goes to see the Anaheim Angels whenever they are in town. Needless to say I am rather jealous.

I would love to see the Angels play again. Except i have to travel 6 hours to do so.

Wrong One

One of the problems that often have in life at school is that we often have to rely on people for certain things. We had a person come in at my last school who would come in and show the students how they would change things in cars like alternators and tires and such.

Of course the funny one was when he brought in Ferrari parts for a older chevy. It was rather funny hearing the stories of this one.

Sunsets

Living in South Dakota, one thing I have learned is to always have a camera ready with extra compact flash cards ready for the go. There are many amazing pictures that I can take. I have been frustrated that my camera died. Grrrrr.

There are so many great sunsets that are out there, I am always amazed at how nice the sunsets are in the midwest. The sunsets are far better then they are over the beach in California.

Boy Scouts.

One of the things that I have learned teaching in an alternative is to always be prepared. Just like when traveling you need cheap travel insurance for the backup plans, always being ready is still this old Boy Scout still believes in being prepared.

There are many days, I have to turn on a dime. Kids will come in all riled up and angry. I have to be able to calm them down and get ready to move on to the next class.

Always being ready for anything is my motto and what I have to be ready to do.

Lesser Sound

One of the hard things about teaching is that some of the floors and walls are how shall we say? Plain. One of the real problems is that there can be some serious echos. I have suggested some less expensive rugs. Anything to dampen the sound in the room. When a student decides to act out, the noise level can through the roof.

Well I am hoping that my pleas do not fall on deaf ears and that some area rugs can be purchased.

Teaching The Class

One of the problems that I have noticed in alternative schools is the amount of drug rehab that is sometimes needed. Now growing up there was only wacky weed (for the most part) not all these other items that are out there.

There was a person I know who had a real hard time with meth. I mean this person was still addicted at least a year after being off the drug. Being a minor this person had lots of problems and I hope that they do well in the future. Teaching was hard because this person seemed to have forgotten much of what was learned in earlier years. The good news is that this person was motivated and learned most of what was needed quickly and demonstrated it well.

Cost Increase

One of the hard things for schools is figuring out the right amount of insurance quotes to give. People do not have much of a choice so it is up to districts to give good costs and keep the costs down and the benefits up.

This is something that teachers need to look at when they are wanting to change jobs. There have been a few times when I have changed jobs when I switched from A to B and had problems with newer and more expensive insurance. Of course the real problem was that whatever pay increase I had was wiped out.

Nice Gift.

I recently discovered a funny thing. There is a website http://www.restaurant.com that will allow people to purchase restaurant tickets and get a good discount. f course I do this through COke Rewards. Kinda nice just saving the tickets.

They take the coupon and place it in to the POS systems and bamm a nice gift certificate.

Well I hope you can find nice things to give your teacher. I would suggest that you can give these to your teachers. All it takes is two weeks of codes.
