Dressing

What always amazes me is how the different teachers dress. While the majority where polo shirts to work, some have ties and cufflinks to school.

While I recommend that you wear good clothes for starting. Then to start dressing down. I like wearing polo shirts, as I do not feel totally safe with a tie and I refuse to wear a clip on tie. I really hate clip on ties.

Differances

Recently we had to go through the whole issue, which I thought was gone in high school, we have kids party invitations going out.

I never liked them at school. As I was the one who was always passed over. Sad to see it all over. I am just really to not like the parties given out to students to other studnets.

Well have a happy day.

Textbooks

Trying to find some maxim lighting in the classroom is hard. As my prior post mentions, Amazon is trying to come with a new digital book reader. The one problem I see is the issue of textbooks. One advantage of buying textbooks, for college, is that one can buy a used textbook.

Then I can even sell it back or sell it on Amazon. This way the book does not cost me a lot. Will a used textbook be able to be sold and bought. This is the real question can we get used digital books.

The Future of Reading

While technology is the future in the classroom and projection televisions seem to be everywhere . . . the book has been lacking.

What is odd is that the textbook manufactures have been everything they can to use the Internet. There are quizzes online. Recently I received a complete copy of a textbook in PDF format. Of course this is rather not usable. The amount of processing power to see all the graphics is high.

I have been using my PALM devices for years to read books and I love it. Of course I read a lot of classics. Personally, I really like the idea. Now Amazon is coming out with a device called, Kindle.

The promise of Kindle is that we can buy book cheaply online through a wifi connection. There are ideas of users helping with a book, which I think are rather bad.

I am still not sure I would want to DL a book for $10. I would hit the $5 mark rather quickly. The $10 seems a little high. I also wonder . . . how will this work for Libraries or poor people. Are we going to condemn future generations of the poor to not reading or reading antiquated books.

OR the big question for this blog. How will this tech effect education

Well I hope we come up with something that is not to expensive.

You Tube and Speed

I do wish that my school did not have just plain old DSL but had some solid fiber cable internet.

Seems that a number of poeple over use high speed internet. I am not to sure what people do. I am sure there is much in the lines of streaming videos. As well as lots of youtubing going on.

Working in Life

I have been teaching a life skils class. Having kids format a checking account and a budget.

The problem is that the students have no real understanding of how a real budget works or how a real checking account works. The students run through motions and yet the reality does not seem to sink into their heads.

Well have a happy day

Another One Bites the Dust

Recently at my school we recieved a bunch of new computers. I am still using my own personal computer. One thing that I found funny is my principal's computer's hard drive just bit the big one. I tried to rescue her computer. Needless to say, I cannot really help hardware failures. Did she have a back up?

Of course not. So remember to back up your important data.

Have a happy day.

Stress

One of the great things I have noticed . . . why do teachers need vacations. I know we often say that it is for the students.

I think that it is the teachers who need some time in a Condo Hotels to rest and recharge. The job is quite stressful. I am not sure I have ever seen such a group of stressed people. This includes those who were in the military.

Dog Tag Review

I recently received a dog tags from the quick trophy people. This engraved dog tag is of a durable material.

I do wish there were other items other then sports. I would have loved a computer item instead of a baseball. The only other complaint I have is the hole in the dog tag is really small. I cannot place the dog tag correctly on a standard key ring. I had to find a smaller key ring to have it fit right.

This dog tag would make a great gift for a team or a group. I am not sure where many memebers of a team would place the dog tag. I personally like them on a bag. The dog tag is solid and durable.

Little Folders

When handing in homework, I like setting up folders that act like little mail boxes to collect work.

This way each student has a place to but in homework and they can checkmark the list on the front of the folder. This means the student knows that is required to do a little work.

Have a happy day.

A Teacher's Day off

Today is a day off from school. Kinda wierd having Nov. 2 off. However, who am I to complain.

So I sit here at my home office furniture

and grade a thick pile of papers. I can think of many other things that I would rather do. Such is the life of a teacher.

Have a most happy day. I know I will

Having Fun

I like having fun. I enjoy going to some of the conventions. It looks like I am going to go to one in Las Vegas really soon. I like some of these things.

Vegas will be a new and promising: I have not been there in many years. The last time I was there, I had the family. This time . . . hehehehehehe . . . I will be by myself.

I think I can handle that.

Have a happy day.
