Complex Issues

I am sometimes amazed with the students who do the life skills class. We were going over budget issues and how to reduce ongoing expenses. One of them suggested a tankless water heaters to be installed.

Well someone listens to the radio. This was an odd comment. We then looked at the cost in relation to the savings. They did really good on figuring out benefit analysis.

I was impressed.

Have a happy day.

In School

We have recently had a security system installed within the school. It looks like an ademco system. The students do not like it, cannot say I am shocked. The problem is I am not sure they are monitored all the time.

I find the use of cameras to be unsettling. At least I do not have to worry about cell phones with cameras and ending up on YouTube like some other teachers.

Leaving Early.

Usually when a student leaves here it is usually a good thing. Assuming they do not go out in chains. Recently we had one student who left for drug rehabilitation therapy. I was kind of amused as she seemed to have it under control.

She told me that she would spend nearly a year there. I hope that this student does well in the future.

The hard part of the whole thing was she was one of the best students we had at the school.

Million Dollar Foreclosure

One of the very odd things I find is when I make students think.

I live in a fairly middle class city of 14K. The students I teach are all free/reduced lunch.

Of course the media is partly to blame for the dumbing down of American people. The one that I always find funny is the class warfare.

Today the bane of the money news world, CNBC, has an article on multi-million $$ homes going up for foreclosure. Haha the rich are going to have to live in a trailer or some nonsense. More likely they will, if actually foreclosed upon go to something like a condo hotel.

The article seems to state the evil rich get by without paying the piper. These bad rich people find ways around the rules set for the little people.

I hate when the media does this.

Odd Habits

We have one student who leaves to read using a magnifier. This has always puzzled me. He has perfect vision according to the doc.

So I finally asked him. HE says it makes it faster for him to read. I have to confess I do not know that I really belive him. But as long as he reads and reads well . . . who am I to argue.

Have a happy day

Life Skills

One of the odd things I find at teaching where I do is sometimes what the students do not know. I was talking with the person who does the Life skills classes. Most of the kids had no clue why you would have a savings accounts.

Of course with interest rates at where they are at I am not sure why I want one. One of the odd things with the lower rates though. The lower rates go for houses and such, the lower they go for older people who need the security of savings account. So this last rate of .25% means a 25% drop in income from savings accounts.

Have a happy day.

Passing Time

When looking at schools I have been wondering about some of the ADA issues. I saw one that placed some stair lifts at two differing positions within the school.

What I really wondered was what if someone has to get up the stairs. It would seem to take a lot more then the few minutes for passing. I would wonder if it would take about three to four times the amount of time. As it turns out they moved the classrooms around so that wheelchair people would only be on the bottom floor.

Learning Fun

One of the really cool things about is developing games as a learning tool.

My usual favorite is Jeopardy. Of course, I love Jeopardy and tried out for it once and made the first cut. Of course I did not make the second cut.

In any case, where I work at I have found that many students enjoy games. Where I work at, many of the kids have never played games. I had an 8th grader ask what backgammon is.

I think I am going to spend some time teaching him.

The Future

I wonder about the future of America. As I buy new bedroom furniture I look at the future and wonder.

We are legislating the destuction of America.

I mean I want to choose the type of light bulb I want. I am now being forced to purchase CFL light bulbs. These cost about 5x as a regular light bulb.

This is for all purposes a tax on poor people.

Yes that is right the democrats want to tax poor people.

Even when this is all pssed we have to think about some of the other odd things.

1. CFls have mercury in them. The cost for cleanup is going to be high. What happens when mom and pop stores have a cleanup on the light bulb aisle?

They will be wiped out from the clean up. Even Wal-Mart will have some serious issues of money.

We are also told that we should not have any mercury anywhere else. Yet, we want it in out houses now.

2. Most CFLs are made in China with all the extra pollution made from dirty stacks

Personally, I use CFLs to save money.

All i want is the freedom to be allowed to use the the type of bulb I want.

Talk is Cheap

I know that Wal-Mart is trying to be the Swiss Army knife of family friendly stores.

One big problem that I have seen is that WM has videos in bad locations. Please note that the placement of DVDs.

As you can see that Wal-Mart has videos in bad location. Why are several kid movies surrounding SAW IV. This in my mind is a bad thing.

So why is WM trying to be family friendly. Grr. They are not very family friendly.

Sleeping TIme

One of the early things I have learned in teaching is the idea to get good sleep. As an example, I slept in on Saturday till almost noon. And it was serious sleeping not light sleeping. Well at least I had a memory foam mattress to keep me sleeping. I even went to bed early.

Well I hope that you have a good sleeping night.

Good day.
